CVB1 Lesson 11

Creative Violin Book 1

Lesson 11 will handle the 4th finger again, but now we go a bit deeper.
Putting the 4th finger “out of nowhere” on the fingerboard seems difficult.
In this lesson I will show you how to do it the easy way.
We will train the 4th even further.
In the “overview” tab you will find the whole explanation again.
After that you can go for the other tabs and play along with me.

4th finger on the G-string.
This one is the most difficult one because it feels so far away.
Check your body position that you keep a straight posture.
You can help a bit with the left elbow.
Also try to avoid tension.

Here is a serious challenge for you, Oh Suzanna.
The 4th finger should sound the same (in pitch) as the next open string.
Normally you might choose to play this song with no 4th finger (instead open E-string), but I put in this fingering for exercise purpose.
This lesson is about training the 4th finger, so here is a good one.

Let's improvise

Now let's add the 4th finger to our improvisations.
We will limit the notes to 1 string only, so no string changes yet.
We'll use open string, 1, 2, 3 and 4 (The 4th finger 'replaces' the next open string)
